My Thoughts

I feel like it’s getting harder these days to find great gaming keyboards on a budget but the Rosewill RK-9000V2 is definitely a stand out star in my opinion. I have already featured it in my top keyboard guide but thought that it was so good it deserved it’s own bespoke review and so I ended up writing this.

I thought that it was an excellent value for money keyboard and that it definitely didn’t cut any corners on any of the important materials although that’s not to say they were 100% perfect when building this keyboard. There was a couple of things that I didn’t like but overall they don’t takeaway enough from the other superb features. I would recommend the Rosewill to friends and just anyone else looking to get a great Cherry MX Red keyboard for gaming.

Pros

Beautiful Design
Obviously this point is purely subjective and based on personal taste but I would have to say that this keyboard looks really great, there are no over the top design features which I don’t like. It does have a low key Rosewill logo on the keyboard but its “low-key” and small and blends in nicely with the overall black color scheme.

High Quality Materials
I would have to say the despite the budget price point, the Rosewill RK-9000V2 doesn’t cut back on the material quality to compensate. This is built with a great hard plastic case and even some real metal inside. Because of this, you get a real nice thick durable heavy keyboard that feels like it is actually priced way higher than it is.

USB Cable
Some gaming keyboards might look great and be priced cheaply but if they’ve got a USB cable that sucks then I am not interested. Thankfully the USB cable on this Rosewill keyboard feels very strong and even detaches making it possible replace only the cable versus the cable and the whole keyboard in the event of any damage.

Cherry MX switches
If you are unfamiliar with what these are then let me tell you what my personal favorite type of switch is. I like Cherry MX Red switches which is the type used in the RK-9000V2 because I feel like they are by far the most responsive switches out there and for me they feel interchangeable between gaming and casual use. I also like the clicky sound they make 🙂

Cons

Lighting
I like my gaming keyboards not too flashy and the rosewill delivers that for the most part. The one thing that did annoy me was the led lights on the keyboard. I am quite sensitive to light and I ended up putting duct tape over them which did the mask up the issue but it would be nice if it was possible to adjust the color or even the brightness.

The Keycaps
The lettering on the keycaps is supposed to be laser printed which would imply that it would make it very hard to wear off right? I game pretty much everyday but only for about 3-4 hours in the evening and even after about 2 months of that I found that the lettering started to fade and I am confident that I am not alone with this issue.
